Environmentalism through art & performance. ARTEMIS by Alana Bloom (Vault 2019) Press Release.
For Immediate Release: Wed 6th February 2019
London based artist & performer Alana Bloom brings ‘Artemis’ to Vault Festival at the Waterloo Vaults; a physical theatre show exploring environmentalism through the lens of mythology. Passionate about the natural living world, Bloom tells a moving story as a warning to our current inaction on climate change.

Following a sold-out double bill of Artemis in 2017 at Motion, Bristol, and emerging straight from a four-month run in Shotgun Carousel’s hedonistic immersive dining experience ‘Divine Proportions’ - Bloom returns with a five day run of her mesmeric performance ‘Artemis’ weaving together humanities current mythopoetic story through theatre.
The show is a mixture of storytelling, physical theatre and aerial circus. Haunting images of a deer skull are juxtaposed with soundscapes, spoken word and song to create a mesmeric performative ritual, offering up a journey of transformation, through the emotional landscape of grief, rage, reconnection, commitment and most importantly, hope.
The show is Bloom’s answer to the question ‘What can an individual do to create change?’ - with the belief that the arts can play a part in shifting public opinion in order to encourage the change necessary to protect our environment.
Performer Alana Bloom creates performance centred around movement, embodiment, nature, ecology & myth. She regularly produces and facilitates creative retreats that explore the same themes. Collaborator & musician Katya Barton will be curating a live soundscape for the performance using an array of Eastern European folks songs and instruments, inspired by her time in an old growth forest, Puszcza Bialowiezka in Poland.
